Hi desolate kitten! Glad to hear you're enjoying your tarot. I've been interested for a while too but I've always been kind of scared because my mother put fear into me about it... via her mother's fear. That side of my family come from Eastern European gypsies and I believe fortune-telling etc was part of their lifestyle, and my grandmother always had fear of it because she believed in it and I guess didn't want to find out anything bad. I do believe that it is not really to be feared as it is linked to our subconscious, but I have always held back. I think I will get there when the time is right. My boyfriend has an Aleister Crowley deck which I'm too scared to even touch, partly because my intuition tells me it is a magick deck and it could be something I will regret playing with, so if I do ever explore the tarot I will probably get my own deck.

A friend of mine who is a Christian once told me she burned a tarot card to see what would happen, and she swears it let out a low moan as it burned. I asked my boyfriend about it and he said that it could be to do with how the cards had been consecrated (by someone else before she got them).

My great-grandmother, grandmother, and aunts all read tarot, but kept it secret from the family. At about 14 I became interested in cards and about 10 years later bought my first deck.
I loved learning the cards, and found I had a real knack for reading them - even discovering that I could open myself to another person's energy and shuffle the cards to do a long distance reading by phone. In these types of readings, I would become quite "connected" to that person in a shared higher consciousness. It was years after that that I discovered the secret of all the tarot reading women in my family!
In all my years reading cards, I have never encountered any spirits other than those of the person for whom I'm reading, but I have encountered beautiful beings from other dimensions while in meditative states. I have never encountered anything dangerous.
I think the most important thing is that if you realize that you are the Universe, that all things are connected, then any entities you may meet are a part of your Universal self and have something to teach you.
