Iansanityy, that's a very interesting and helpful suggestion. I just got to read through this topic with great interest. I can empathize completely with the problem, so I wanted to see what everyone suggested. I like the suggestion, and I will try it. A question: is there any particular kind of meditation or trance method that is more helpful for clarification here?

Well, I don't know. I've been saying "the time is right, now" for months, but it appears there is never enough time to do what I need to do.

Hi Selena,
Your post resonates with me so much. I, too, feel like I have all kinds of talent and ideas and I never seem to get the "lucky" breaks that I see other people getting, where they fall into great paying jobs that utilize their talents, they seem to have enough money to study what they want and travel where they want, etc.

Exactly! I've observed the very same phenomenon countless times. I always ask, is it that I just don't see the "opportunities" or do they just don't come to me? So many times the opportunities that come to other people, the "right place at the right time" kind, are so weird and freakish almost, that I don't really think I'm not seeing mine. I just tell myself, ok, this wasn't meant to be, yet, and then buckle down and keep trudging on. But it can get quite discouraging.

If you don't mind, I'll just talk through some stuff I've been thinking about myself that relates to this and some understandings that are peeking through for me, and they may or may not relate to your problem.

As to not being able to explore your talents, I've always thought that if I wanted to do something badly enough, I'd figure out a way regardless of money. I saw a movie once where this woman carefully unwrapped a present she'd gotten so that she could save the wrapping paper and draw on the back. She was so poor she couldn't even buy paper, but she found a way. I think many artistic skills are like that. If we can't afford a class, we could look online or check books out of the library, or offer to assist someone for free in exchange for their mentorship. But it's really a motivational problem on our part rather than a lack of money.

I think lack of money is, for me, a convenient excuse. People will also suggest fear of success as an underlying issue, but I don't know that I buy that, either. Maybe it's fear that I don't have something creative to say/express. That I'll put myself out there and think I'm fabulous, but the world will yawn and not notice.

Oh, believe me, I have done a lot against my circumstances. I've carved a lot of time out of the day by giving up TV, organizing better, giving up reading books almost totally, sleeping less, but it seems that each time I gain 1/2 hr, something happens and I have to "waste" 1 hr doing something else. It's not so much the money that's the issue for me, it's the time. And contrary to money, there isn't an endless supply of it. You get 24 hrs a day and that is it.

Weirdly enough, I just proposed a class to my local rec department thinking that I wouldn't make much money but it'd be something I'd like to try teaching, and it turns out it may actually be quite lucrative. I liked the vibe of that. The saying, "Do what you love and the money will follow" is too trite for my way of thinking, but I like the way this class is shaping up. I want to embrace people paying fair prices for services they want or need and see it as a win/win where we both come away happy.

Congratulations on your endeavor! Sounds like maybe it was the RIGHT time for you! I wish you lots of success.

Let a man radically alter his thoughts, and he will be astonished at the rapid transformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life. Men imagine that thought can be kept secret, but it cannot. It rapidly crystallizes into habit, and habit solidifies into circumstance. Bestial thoughts crystallize into habits of drunkenness and sensuality, which solidify into circumstances of destitution and disease. Impure thoughts of every kind crystallize into enervating and confusing habits, which solidify into distracting and adverse circumstances. Thoughts of fear, doubt, and indecision crystallize into weak, unmanly, and irresolute habits, which solidify into circumstances of failure, indigence, and slavish dependence. Lazy thoughts crystallize into weak, habits of uncleanliness and dishonesty, which solidify into circumstances of foulness and beggary. Hateful and condemnatory thoughts crystallize into habits of accusation and violence, which solidify into circumstances of injury and persecution. Selfish thoughts of all kinds crystallize into habits of self-seeking, which solidify into distressful circumstances. On the other hand, beautiful thoughts of all kinds crystallize into habits of grace and kindliness, which solidify into genial and sunny circumstances. Pure thoughts crystallize into habits of temperance and self-control, which solidify into circumstances of repose and peace. Thoughts of courage, self-reliance, and decision crystallize into manly habits, which solidify into circumstances of success, plenty, and freedom. Energetic thoughts crystallize into habits of cleanliness and industry, which solidify into circumstances of pleasantness. Gentle and forgiving thoughts crystallize into habits of gentleness, which solidify into protective and preservative circumstances. Loving and unselfish thoughts which solidify into circumstances of sure and abiding prosperity and true riches.

Good luck!

Just ask question.

Who am I?
In this world.
May I be of some use to it?
