I've been wondering about this for a while now...

Witches have cats as familliars, right? (I'm not sure if that's true or just the media's stereotype.) Would it be possible to turn something like a plush toy into a living being in a sense? I plan to do a lot of alchemy as soon as I move out from my parent's house, so I'll need help...

I was originally thinking of somehow 'binding' a ghost to the plush, but I'm pretty sure that'd be enslavement. Plus, I'm a newbie at this whole magic thing, so I'm afraid of getting posessed or something. Razz

I don't recommend binding anything to anyone or anything.. Just imagine if that was you being bound to your room or something... that would suck! Though you can create elementals. Create your own pet, name him and all of that good stuff.

However, if you did decide to work with a spirit that's housed in a teddy bear, there are thousands of spirits of varying conscious development that are more than willing to be a servent for you exclusively. These would be the ones to search for. Typically, you won't find books that speak of them. Many of summoning grimoires only speak of entities that are more spiritual forces in design and not those that are more evolved. If you consider working with Jinn, I'd urge caution. I have worked with Jinn before, but I don't keep them around, nor have I made any pacts with them. The last one I worked with was named JuJu (I know...I was surprised, too; I even asked twice), but I don't work with them that much, primarily because I don't know that much about them. I know what's said in mythology and in some branches of mysticism, but there are exceptions to every rule. Could there be nice Jinn? Maybe, I treat them the same way I treat snakes. I know not all snakes are gonna hurt me, but I don't know that much about them, so I'm extra cautious.

If you decide in the end that you want to work with a spirit already in existence, think of qualities your don't want this spirit to have and you'll find ones that'll fit with what you want. Also, find out the type of need you'd need the spirit for. Whether it's an elemental you create or some other spirit, having a specific need in mind (other than 'I just want to') makes magick more effective. You wanted to learn how to read and write at some point, so it got easier when you had that need.

I've worked with both elementals I've created and already existing spirits and I've had an equal number of sucesses with both.

Alchemy is a very broad topic, so unless you had one or two specific areas in mind, working with several spirits might be in order, if you're gonna be working over several areas of alchemy.

Whether you create the spirit or find one that's hanging around, it's better if you not work with ones that are angry and mean. If you were to loose control of them, they might turn on you and you're screwed.

If you want to conenct any spirit to a physical object, I'd recommend adding protection from the destruction of the object, as well as it eventually returning to you, if you loose it. But, also have the exception that you are still able to 'unbind' the entitiy from the object, if you want and/or you being able to break the object to release it. Often, the destruction alone of the physical object will release any connection between a spirit and a physical object. It's the same as the physical body of a person and their spirit. The only difference here is the physical object usually has no parts to let it move, like when it's a stone or in your case, a plush toy.

However, if the spirit did have something like telekinesis and is able to move the object its connected to, it'll move. Think of Carpet from the Aladdin toon movies, though Carpet's flight may be elemental energy work, electromagnetic, etc. and not pure TK.

Not binding it to an object may be easier because all you'd have to do is call it to you and it'll appear. If you bind it, it's stuck (in my experience) and unless you communicate telepathically with it or it's got some astral projection-like/OBE-like abilities, it isn't going anywhere and won't be able to do much with it's energies except direct them towards the event/object/person in question and trust it got to them and the spirit won't be able to go to them.
