This is going to sound so silly, but, it has been racking my brains now for a month, to the point, I seriously considered suicide in the future (which is not the first time).

Im a 24 yr old male and am currently living in Tenerife. My mum lives in Tenerife, and I have recently come back here after living in England for nearly 2 years, I came back here about 3 months ago. The last time my mum saw me before I arrived back here, was just over a year ago in England. When I came back this time, she noticed my hair ontop was very thin, to the point in bright light you can really see the scalp ontop. When she saw me a year ago, she did not see any thinning on my hair, as its always been thick and abundant. For the last 3 years solid, I had been using hair straghtening irons, as I was growing it long as it is curly and thick and hard to control.

We think this is probably the damage, but at times, I dont know, the hair has receded slytly at the temples, but I read that excessive hair pulling (I also pulled my hair really tight in pony tails every day when it was long enough, brushing it harshly when wet, and when I did use the straighteners, which for 2 years was EVERY day, I pulled really hard at the hairs to get them real straight and got annoyed and sometimes broke or pulled hair out!) can make the hair line recede, and also I burnt around that area with the straighteners many times. But, my uncle and Grandad both had receding hairlines, but neither went bald...

Im really frying my brain at times over this. Dont worry, I stoppped doing anything to damage my hair a month ago when I personally realised the thinning. I am now eating healthy, excercising....But the hardest, and probably most vital thing to do to help hair, is thinking and feeling positive... I worry about this too much, but I know anything is possible and believe all things can be healed and regrown. I guess I just wanted some closure as to what really has happened, the obvious is that I damaged my hair, but I get scared that its something more worrying...

I know this sounds like a silly subject, and in a way, vanity, but, Im nearly 25 and would like to keep all my hair on my head..

So my questions are, is it damage that has caused my hair to thin, and will it grow back? And, with enough hard work and positivity, can I regrow the hair with good health and diet at the temple area?

If no one feels like responding to this, I understand. But, thank you to anyone who does.

Much appreciated, love and light to all, imagoroom (David)

David....Thinning hair can be of concern for anyone. Especially for you as you are too young to be experiencing this. In reading how you would "straighten your hair, pull it really hair" could have damaged your scalp. Lots of things you can try BEFORE panicking. First of all, next time you need your hair trimmed, go to a really GOOD stylist. Tell them everything. There are some good products out there. Nioxin is one. They even have a good root booster to promote hair growth. There is Rogaine also. Get your thyroid checked (blood test). Go to a Dermatologist. They can biopsy your scalp, take hair samples. There is also a chinese herb-Shou Wu Pian-Quality Life herbs .com I hear it really promotes hair growth. I don't know of anyone that has tried it. Please talk to a herbalist or your physician prior to using it. Hair loss is depressing, but not worth taking your life. Talk to your Dr. about that also. Worrying does not help. I have never seen anyone resolve any issue by worrying. Lastly, baldness can surface after many generations. Be grateful for what you have. Remember that showing gratitude reaps more of what you are thankful for. I hope I have helped. David-God Bless and Good Luck....Kaybee
