Can a washer, nut, ... tied to a string be a useful pendulum?

No, but you can buy one in any mysticism store for only about $350. You could also make one yourself if you have the proper materials. (Some sort of Agate or Emerald crystal that is at least 9.3 karots and soaked in human blood for about a year, and a string made from your own hair) And it would only take a few years to charge.

Yes, anything that can freely swing without too much resistance would be an ideal pedulum. I use a cheap 25-cent necklace with one end of the chain disconnected. Very Happy

A pedulum is really just a tool for unlocking the knowledge within your subconcious, so yes, pretty much anything will work.

Well, here is a mini-course in dowsing that I used to learn with. I got it from the thread "Mini-Course in Pendulum Dowsing."

Basically it's just a matter of hold the pendulum up (use a necklace, key on a string, actual pendulum, etc... whatever you want), hold it steady, helps to rest your elbow on a table or something, ask a yes or no question you know the answer to like "Am I a girl?". Note the direction it moves. Might be clockwise or counter clockwise, or might be left to right or up and down. Now ask another question that's the opposite answer of the last on. Note that movement. Now that you know what yes and no ansers are, ask whatever you want to know.

I've done it for years with a necklace and it worked perfectly, and recently a friend bought me a amethyst pendulum, and that works great too.

Drusilla, would work too, if you hang the pendulum in something static? so you dont touch it?

My own trustworthy, first and best pendulum I've made was made of basic 2 components: 1. A medium lenght of thin leather (but the leather was special). 2. A small iron key.

The key attached to the other end of the pendulum and another end of the string had 2 individual knots (to hold onto, when dowsing)...
