Let me make this perfectly clear...

Radreset.exe DOES NOT modify the software in any way, shape or form. So it is technically not a hacking tool because it's primary function is to do what any bum on the street could do with a few mouse clicks anyway.

The Tifareth shareware programs create a file somewhere on your computer the first time they run and use this file to store a counter. This counter keeps track of how many times you have run the program until it reaches the maximum number coded in the program. The program is then meant to stop working. If you know where the file is located and you then delete it, the program will have to rewrite the file again the next time it is run. Thus in effect, this is the same as re-starting the counter.

Now, about the subject of defeating shareware restrictions...

As far as I'm concerned, Tifareth created a file on my computer. I have every right to do whatever I want with that file, including deleting it, printing it out, whatever. So, all radreset.exe does is the 'finding-and-deleting-of-the-file' process and automates it. I am simply providing a copy of it to others so as to save them the trouble of figuring it out themselves. I can assure everyone that whoever uses radreset.exe is doing nothing more than excercising their right to maintain control over what is installed or copied to their hard drive.

Defeating the 20/30 day time-outs of Tifareth's programs is simply a nice side-effect of excercising this right Cool

Tifareth cannot extend control to what content is placed on someone else's hard drive. If I run a Tifareth program and it creates a file on my hard drive after I have installed it, then I have the right to delete that file if I do not want it there.

Plain and simple Smile

If you created a software would you be happy if people defeated the limits?

This is not an arguement about rights of file on a system, etc, etc.

That's a cracker's mentality. I mean those crackers who crack software limitations. You don't think I know alot about this do you?

If Tifareth finds out about this and is okay with it..then it's fine..

If not..then you know what I have to do..

Plain and simple.

Yes, of course... I agree. You have a right and responsibility here as well as Tifareth do with their programs.

Tifareth didn't ask my persmission to write a file to my hard drive, so all I am doing is taking the liberty to delete it. I hope Tifareth will also take liberty to understand this.

Don't all other shareware use the same technique of writing a file to the hard drive or something to registry?

You're missing the moral point here as well..

I don't think anyone will take it lightly that you are defeating the limits of their hard work.
