Hi: I posted the link to an Attunement Manual, which offers guidelines for self attunement to Reiki, etc., some days ago. I hope it has proven helpful.
Now, here are two sites which discuss Reiki, and "Reiki like" practices that you can use your self attunement process with. In total there are over 300 programs that will be available to you. Enjoy !!

I've got a q actually, if it applies to any attunement, does it also apply to esoteric intiations, for example could I ask my higher self to initiate me to the nth degree of the Golden Dawn or whatever

Sorry for the late response -- yes, i believe, based on my experience that so long as you can clearly identify what you wish to be attuned for the Higher Self can do it. However, within reason. In other words, re the Golden Dawn initiations -- if you requested to be attuned for the level of Magister Templi right away, for example, you might meet with some resistance  ) But, if you worked your way up the ladder, some success would arise. I have not worked on these initiations yet myself. So i can't swear to this, but i will be giving it a try. Of course, there is a lot of knowledge that one must have to support the grades -- beyond the "energetic component"; so... anyway an interesting possibility ) Good luck. Please let me know what you experience, if convenient.

I decided to be a bit cheeky and use this idea to get the super duper cosmic attunement that is plugged on this site for free 
I don't really think it worked though 
I tried it for Reiki as well and I think that may have had an effect

Yea it don't work with the Cosmic Activation. Try as hard as you like 
That's because there is a special process that's done by the healers/masters and has to be synchronized in time-zones meaning you have to be sitting down at a certain time which is the same time they are sitting down to do it for you (distance does not matter)
If it did then i don't think it would be as effective as it is! It's rather unique and empowering.
Self-Attunement will work with Reiki and other general energy systems though but not the vast multitude of every single one that is out there (known and unknown).
The Cosmic Activation does that though.
I just cannot get over how much this has changed me for the better.
Even due to global financial crisis where everybody is worrying i'm not!
