i would like to learn how to mediate so i can use Mantras if any one can help me step by step on effective ways on how to
my past experiences with mediation have been like this
i would close my eyes and breath
some times i feel light headed i dont know if that matters or not
then i try to picture the beach i use to go to when i was a child
at the end of this i feel really tired and sleepy or really hungry and calm
can any one shed some light on me if this is a good sign or what i'm doing wrong

Hi,
Good work magister.
As for Mantras you can start simply with OM NA MA SHI VA YA.
You can read more about it at ==> http://www.mysticalwonders.org/group/viewtopic.php?t=9985
I'll also be writing up more on other mantras i've used personally that really works.

Hello.
What has worked so far for me:
1. Laying down in bed, visualizing and feeling my body relax slowly from toes to head, concentrating on my breathing at the same time. Without much effort, just let your body relax naturally, be like this for a while (don't rush it) and you will feel lighter, while your conciousness seems more "awakened".
2. Watch my thoughts. Center my self in my awareness instead of my thoughts, not identifying with them. Be like this for a while and eventually, you will find less and less thoughts and a more focused mind.
3. Lay down. Visualize and "feel" that you're breathing in a white and pure light of love, and the breath that you exhale is at first black as smoke (you feel you're exhaling all negativity from you). Keep doing this and your breath becomes lighter and lighter until it is the color of that light, and you're free from all negativity, and your whole body is filed with light. You will feel sooo relaxed and centered.
4. Try to stop all thoughts. It's somehow like #2, except you're trying to have an empty mind and every thought you notice, about ANYTHING (including about meditation it self) you cut it. It's hard to describe, but I did this the first time I tried to meditate and had great success.
5. Isochronic tunes. There are some free ones on the internet, you can download one for meditation, put on some good quality headphones and focus on the sound. After a while you'll feel lightheaded and more centered.
6. Everyday, try to be aware of what you're doing and thinking, and any conflict or negativity that arises in your mind, stop it inmediatly. Remember your self to do this as much as possible, and you will find that you can get rid more easily of all that "noise", which is the purpouse of meditation.
You can always research about alpha state and techniques to get into it, it's the same state your mind goes in when you meditate.
I'm still learning and would love to know more about it too.
Hope it helped.
