Is it neccessary to have a wand/athame or is a finger pointing as good?
I have both - but tend to use my finger, I find it as effective and easy to maintain, plus I can't misplace it, lose it. Having said that my wand/athame is precious to me (and I do use it from time to time) but I find I rarely use it really as my finger is there...
I suppose it's all to do with intent |

| The choice is really up to you, but your right its really up to the intent of the individual that mentally wills what they need or want. I don't use wands or athames but I have a regular knife I consecrated with the moon for which I only use for inscribing on candles for candle magic of course! If you want you may choose to do the same, use your wands or athames the same way for special consecrating or other type of ceremonies. Completely up to you! Be Blessed Kat |

| Yes a finger is juat as good as an Athame or a wand you actualy dont need any tools at all there just propes but through consecration and use in ritual they can take on a benificial energy of there own. |

Not sure I agree. A wand or athame has only a sacred use, and therefore it's 'power' grows by being being used repeatedly for only one thing.
However, a finger has many uses! Some sacred, some less so. Sure it has the added advantage of (hopefully) being attached to your body but then everytime you want to use it for something special... well let's just say the finger memory might begin to play some tricks.
I think there's value in powering up artifacts by repeated use. Imagine using the same wand for 50 years. Wow! And then you could hand it down to your children so they can build on that power. Now that's something you can't really do with a finger.

Hi
Thanks for your posts, as I said I do have an athame but whether or not circumstances permit I use it....for example I live in a city and (sensibly) walk to the local pagan pub moots here. I use my finger ...if... I feel I need a 'protective' essance is needed around, finger works absolutely fine.
If there is a ritual that I do for a specific festival the athame comes out. But for regular day use the finger suffices - maybe I should start charging my athame more - but I suppose it is what you are comfortable with at the end of the day
I agree passing said finger on to generations would be a bit rank!

In my head i was told that the best wand anyone can have is one that they make themselfs as it comes from the imagination of the person who is making it an will have their personal power wiv in it, has any one else been told this by anyone?
When i was a kid i wud hear a stick or feather or stone call out my name an I wud pick them up an take them home an put them wiv my scared things
Actually i still do it
Fingers are good as wands as they are fixed to your essence an if the intent comes from the heart wiv no harm intended then they are very powerful.
Wands if you use them shud be used wiv care an attention as some of them have minds of their own No joke !!
And of corse regarded wiv the highest respect !!!
I am not a witch an dont have a wand but someone told me that i was a witch in a past life an the strange thing is i have always been attacted by this sort of thing !!! Hey guys if i start to ramble tell me off ok cos i get carried away at times |

Oh here's something that i saw in Newport in the isle of Wight the other week
I was in town minding my own business wen i heard this woman rambling away to herself !!! In her hand she had a stick it looked like a small oak stick an as she got closer she pointed it at a man on the other side of the road, an she said "you need to learn manners" and then laughed an siad
"now a lesson you will learn, have some manners or you will burn"
The thort that came into my head was wow she has got some guts for a witch, then i thort i hope she knows wot she is doing cos if not that guy will suffer!! an i didnt think that was quite rite somehow to put a spell in this way. What do you guys think? |

Greetings Cherone that is interesting it sounds like you may have been a witch in a past life or have inherited knowlege from your ansesters. inregard to the woman with the wand the spell would work provided her consentration was not brocken and was most likly a spir of the moment type thing.
Blessings
