Many people have different opinions on the black entities...here's the real answer...it's based on perception and level and tons of other variables. It could be any one of the things people have said or somthing completely different...but from what you said it appears benevolent.

If he wants to do it well, and be able to go to the Astral plane eventually...the best way is to practice, practice, practice...there is no quick fix...

A tip of my own...hm...do focus training...have him concentrate on one thing, maybe the number 1, as long as he can...whenever even a tiny thought invades his concentration, move to the number 2, etc.

I can relate because the first time i projected ahuge Black Figue with wings of and angel attacked me when i flew. It flew at me and slapped me into the ground causeing me to lose concentration
