this is something soome of us have spent a long time battling, having been repressed by others most of our lives.
i've found a change in perspective to be helpful.. the knowledge that there is no "the truth", only "a version of the truth". my truth is not necessairly my truth, nor their truth my truth. everybody does their best with what they know to be true. if they justify their mistakes, and most do, it's their ego. ego gets in the way, always. develop compassion, tolerance and patience. a lot of people live their lives with beliefs they picked up at 10 years old, and younger. they live their lives as if what they believe is true, and it is - from their perspective.
change your perspective to one that encompasses all beliefs as valid, even the ones you don't like. avoid arguing in favor of your beliefs, you don't need to. your beliefs are just as valid for you as anyone else's are for them. let them argue that they're right and you're wrong. be content in the knowledge that their beliefs create their reality.
"those who speak, do not know. those who know do not speak".
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. "
