This is one of these basic questions that beginner should be able to find the answer, and I still didn't, despite all efforts.

Look at this from my point of view:

1. There are schools of magick (traditions) as high magick (Golden Dawn and such), magick based on natural properties of herbs, oils, stones (hoodoo, witchcraft), with asking Deities, saints and spirits for help in between. Each has own long list of rituals involved, likely for a good reason. Then why there are so many of them, for achieving different set of results? What is the difference, then, one is stronger and better than another, or are they different tasks oriented?

2. Another approach is eclectic, picking what appeals to you from here and there. Looks like practical and viable method to me. Is it so? Or one should be obligated to follow the complicated set of rituals? If there are absolutely necessary elements that should be present, no matter what, like belief, strong emotional charge, ability to raise and direct energy, centering, grounding, meditation, clearing and protecting area? What else from the absolutely musts?

You see, "what works for you" is not actually an answer I'm looking for. I'm not a first human in the world who tries that, and it either works or not. What your research told you?

Thank you for being considerate,
It's Me.

I am going to tell you what you probably do not want to hear but it is the only way.

Do what works for you.

Do what you're guided to do.

Each person is different and on unique life paths individually. So each person is always different.

Simple.

That is what my research and experience has teached me.

different schools of magick are a little bit like religion. they all claim to be the one true way. high magick is probably the most practical of the lot. yet i sometimes hear someone say "if you do [x], then that's not high magick!". i'd suggest that you follow what you term "ecletic". take what works for you and leave the rest. undoubtedly, you will eventually meet someone who says "if you do [x], that's not eclectic! that's from wicca!" or whatever. the old adage of you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time. ignore "the people" altogether and please yourself all of the time [disclaimer: innuendo not intended].

1)The schools of Magick are, in essence, different areas of which expertise are exacted. Normally they have a specific element or series of elements in all the rituals which are present. There are also main theological cores and ideals which are unique to each school's teaching as well. They are actually mindsets and frames of minds and thinking while preforming the school of magick 's rituals in my opinion Razz

The different types of magick (Shamanism, Witchcraft, Sorcery, Drudism, ect) has specific core elements that are similar and present in every practitioner in that group heading. The secondary elements and beyond outside of the core elements get more exact and specific on how indepth you get as well as who you study under if you so choose to (as well as your own personalized flair)

2)The eclectic approach is more personalized to your own tastes. Its good but it's basically used to find your own way... It can either be used to discover what appeals or call to you out of the other schools of magick out there, or can be used as a basis for making your own pathway. It should be noted that if you are using the different schools techniques as a template of your own school of magick, you are basically having to discover everything that works on your own and you are basically just one step farther than you are and still have to keep searching for what works for you with guesses and shots in the dark.

So my advice? Try different schools by what appeals and work for you and follow the greatest path that works best for you, or atleast learn what you can from them.
If none do then forge your own way, keeping in mind that it is the longer and harder rout but more unique and personalized to your own brand of magick.
