|

Hello,
I'm new here and I just found this place. It looks exactly like what I've been looking for. I was wondering if someone can give me some ideas on how to deal with this particular problem?
When I meditate (or do deep relaxation for that matter) I find that I can go into really deep state but almost as soon as I get there, my heart starts pounding, the relaxation state is destroyed, and my body sort of tingles/itches so that I HAVE to move (sort of like restless leg syndrome). At this point, even if I get up, walk around and try again, I cannot get back to the deep state of relaxation.
Is there a reason for this happening, and if so, is there anything I can do to stop it? It's been a long while since I could enjoy a nice, long meditation and I really miss it!
Thanks for your time,
mdfa. |

| I have a simliar problem... I get to a point where I've got my mind (relatively) quiet, and then suddenly, I'll get an itch. Or rather, it feels like someone poked me with pin! And I oftentimes I can't ignore it, and it breaks into my silence.... how annoying! |

| Any form of feeling is a state of tension, learn too do "energy work" as it is a big part of meditation, and may help you relax. besides that, you need too practise relaxing your body. If you have any sort of "feeling" let it flow threw you, or just scratch it :p |

| Yeah, if you're laying there and ll of a sudden your leg itches...jsut scratch it. Ultimately it's better if you get rid of it than if you lay there for a half hour stewing over the itch. Just like extraneous thoughts: acknowledge them (itch it) and then let it go without dwelling on it too much. When you're heart is pounding, notice it and try to move on. Later in a more sober state is when you can think about it and try to figure why it's doing that/how to stop it. |

You can start your meditation by visualizing a ball of light at your feet.......slowly work up your body until it's gone out the top of your head.
When I get an itch I do one of two things......I repeat to myself silently my nose does not itch until it stops or I visualize my hand itching the spot. Either way there is no movement so your meditation is not disturbed. |

Avatar, Firestorm,
thank you for your suggestions. I have tried doing all these things and I'm pretty adept at relaxing my body but unfortunately I have not been able to get past this.
Maybe I didn't explain the sensation right. It's like when you come home from work and you feel dead tired. You lay down just for a moment and your body immediately falls asleep. But half an hour later your body wakes suddenly and poof - you had a good power nap and you are recharged and ready to do stuff and you would not be able to fall asleep at this point even if you tried.
That's how it happens. I start the meditation, find I can relax really deeply and get to the point that my body either feels like it weighs a ton or nothing at all and suddenly it feels like I'm kicked right out of that state, my body is suddenly there and no matter how hard I try I can't get back into it. I'm thinking maybe the beating heart is because the change from deep relaxation to full awareness is very sudden and hart on the old physical body... LOL.

| Oh dear, I just realized something - I started this thread as mdfa but am continuing as Selena. Same person. I just realized after creating the mdfa account that I really didn't want to use it. Sorry for the confusion! I'll see if I can get the old one deleted. |
