Does philosopher's stone really exists? I was watching fullmetal alchemist & just got curious.

The philosopher's stone is silver ore (or so sources say. Google it). It is believed to hold the key to alchemy.

As in the anime, alchemy is the study of change. It follows similar teachings to other magic, such as a "tier" of existence from lower forms to higher forms.

Alchemy takes two primary routes based on its goals. . . Western alchemy was primarily for profit, turning lead into gold and the like, and had some emphasis on health and medicine. Eastern alchemy, on the other hand, had a high emphasis on healing and immortality, with some emphasis on profit (as a historical note, it was a Chinese alchemist who invented gunpowder. He mixed honey, sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate together and heated them, in an effort to make a potion for immortality. He narrowly escaped death by immolation from the resulting fire.)

Alchemy is not my area of expertise, but it's about inducing the evolution of a lower form to a higher form, be it a simple stone transforming into a diamond, or a man transforming into a god. But there is no single object granting limitless power to change the world.

ah. hahahahaha! you must realize, you still must have the philosophers stone, befor you can turn lead into gold. and the stone itself is perfect unity , thus it perfects all els. thus lead into gold is their example.

Yes indeed the philosophers stone exists. You can read my story "The Philosophers stone" for my personal experience with it.

I believe it does.

I'm currently reading The Philosopher's Stone by Joseph P. Farrell... he gives a lot of evidence for it.

Yes, the philosopher's stone does exist. Not so much a stone but crystalline in nature, the average person would perceive it as a chalk substance, or stone.

Alchemy is the process of transformation, the true application is the transformation of the alchemist as they feed themselves with the manna derived from the philosopher's stone. Once the saturation is at a high enough level the alchemist can ascend.

Kudos, Ratmaster. Very informed post.

The Philosopher's Stone is not a single stone that many have claimed to work with, similar to The Horned Staff. In pre-modern alchemy the emphasis on "the catalyst of change" drew many to the belief more than a physical process was necessary. Because of this many began to store wells of energy. Most alchemists used various crystals and gemstones, especially quartz, due to its innate ability to retain energy.

The name Philosopher's Stone seemed to be the term that stuck, and was of course discovered by popular culture (like the term "book of shadows" for a magick tome).

I retract my original statement about the philosophers' stone.

The Philosophers stone is not a stone as such but has the visual properties and dimensions of a precious stone. The stone can be made into a number of colours depending on which path and metal the alchemist has chosen to make the stone from.

I believe the Philosopher's stone is the magic mushroom. That is what is really is.

I read a few books about it and I think most likely that is exactly what it is.

Manna=The Mushroom

Magic Mushrooms in religion and alchemy by Heinrich

The fact is you can put practically any substance of the animal, vegetable, and mineral kingdom through the alchemical process "solve et coagula, et habebis magisterium" the philosophical separation and recombination of the three alchemical principles and you will have mastery over it. A magic mushroom could be treated in a way through plant alchemy "Spagyrics" to turn it into a vegetable stone, so in a sense it would be a stone of the philosophers. Philosopher in this context being another term for alchemist.
